ARENA OVERVIEW - back
to top
Home to the Home to the Oklahoma City Blazers (Central Hockey League), Oklahoma City Yard Dawgz (arenafootball2), and now the Oklahoma City Thunder (beginning with the 2008-09 NBA season), Ford Center also plays host to major concerts, family events, ice shows, sporting events and the latest in show stopping entertainment.
The 586,000 square foot facility features four seating levels and a press level with a maximum seating capacity of 19,711 for a concert set in-the-round. Located between the more than 6,300 lower level seats and the 7,700 upper level seats, is the Cox Communications Club and Suite Level which features 3,380 club seats and 56 luxury suites.
While it is managed by
SMG, the Ford Center is owned by the City of Oklahoma City and was the premier project of its visionary capital improvement program (MAPS) to finance new and upgraded sports, entertainment, cultural and convention facilities with a one-cent sales tax. Since opening in 2002, a number of improvements have been made to the facility including new restaurants, speakers, video boards and security features. Then, on March 4, 2008, Oklahoma City voters overwhelmingly approved another temporary one-cent sales tax, which is expected to generate $121.6 million over 15 months to fund several major upgrades to the Ford Center. Plans include a grand entrance, multistory atrium, new restaurants, clubs, concession areas, bunker suites, loge boxes, roof top gardens, locker rooms, a warm-up basketball court, team offices and a family fun zone.
